Railgun is a small software company. Everything on this site — the encrypted messenger, the translated meeting system, the mail stack — we designed and wrote ourselves, because we wanted them to exist.

We take on a small number of client projects a year. If you have something genuinely hard, or something that has to be private and actually correct rather than privacy-shaped, we would like to hear about it.

What we've actually shipped

Real cryptography, not a wrapper

Signal Protocol messaging — X3DH key exchange, Double Ratchet, per-device sessions. We have shipped the hard version of this, not an SDK integration.

Live, low-latency media

Encrypted video meetings with near-real-time translated captions. Streaming media, transcription pipelines, and the latency budgeting that makes them usable.

Infrastructure most teams outsource

A full email stack — inbound SMTP, DKIM signing, delivery retries, an HTML sanitiser and a tracking-pixel firewall. Written, not bought.

Products end to end

Postgres to design system: billing, auth, background workers, browser extensions, native desktop apps, and the twenty-language localisation around them.

Several of these are still in beta, and we say so on their own pages. We would rather you judge us on what is real than on a claim we cannot back.

How we work

  • We tell you when we're the wrong choice. A small team is a real constraint. If your project needs a department, we'll say so instead of taking the deposit.
  • Private by default. Data minimisation, encryption where it belongs, and no third-party trackers baked into your product — that's how we build regardless of whether you asked for it.
  • You own it. Your code, your infrastructure, your accounts. No lock-in to anything of ours unless you specifically want it.

Tell us about the project

Everything except email and the description is optional. A person reads every submission.
