Railgun Mail
Your @railgun.chat email address. Standard SMTP in, tracking beacons stripped from everything that arrives from outside, read in the same app as your chat.
Every account gets 1 address and 100 messages a day. Pro raises that to 5 included addresses — a hard cap of 20 — and 500 messages a day, and adds Railgun Mail Tracking (opens, clicks, IP, location, forward detection) on mail you send outside Railgun. There is no free tier of tracking — not a limited one, none.
Outbound delivery is broken right now
Mail addressed to the outside world does not get delivered today. Two things are wrong at once. The SPF record for railgun.chat ends in -all and authorises a single IPv4 and a single IPv6 address, neither of which is the machine that actually relays our mail — so every message we send is a hard SPF failure. Separately, that relay's reverse DNS points at a generic hostname that does not resolve back to it, so it cannot be forward-confirmed either. Gmail and most large providers reject on either count. Until the DNS and the relay are made to agree, treat sending to non-Railgun addresses as unavailable rather than slow.
Receiving runs on a separate MX record and does not depend on any of that. Railgun-to-Railgun mail is delivered inside the system and never touches SMTP.
Email, but private
Encryption, Stated Exactly
Mail arriving from outside is encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM — but under a key the server derives and holds, so the server can decrypt it. Anything you compose in Railgun, internal or outbound, is stored base64-encoded, which is not encryption at all. Nothing here is end-to-end encrypted, and we will not describe it as if it were.
Zero Internal Tracking
Messages between @railgun.chat addresses get no tracking pixel and no link rewriting — the code that injects them is never reached for internal mail, and no tracking ID is ever minted. They also never leave our servers, which is a different thing from our servers not being able to read them.
External Mail Tracking Protection
When you receive email from the outside world, Railgun strips tracking pixels and rewrites tracker links — so senders can't spy on you.
Pseudonymous Identity
Your @railgun.chat address doesn't need to be tied to your real name. Communicate without exposing your identity.
Built Into the App
No separate email client needed. Read, search and compose right from the Railgun desktop app — which is also the only place to read it.
Standard SMTP, One Direction So Far
Railgun runs its own SMTP server on its own MX record, so mail from Gmail, Outlook or anywhere else can reach your address. Sending back out to the wider internet does not work today — the note above says why. There is no IMAP server, so third-party mail clients cannot connect, and only the railgun.chat domain is served.

Inbound from outside: beacons stripped, opportunistic TLS in transit, encrypted at rest under a key the server holds. Railgun-to-Railgun: no tracking, and no encryption at rest either. Sending to outside addresses is the part that does not work yet.
Upgrade to Pro for more
Pro includes 5 addresses and the alias endpoint currently lets you create up to 20, at no extra charge — there is no metered alias billing in the code today. Pro also unlocks Railgun Mail Tracking (opens, clicks, IPs, forward detection), which only ever applies to mail sent outside Railgun, so it is dormant for as long as outbound delivery is down.
